First Ever Softball Tournament A Huge Success

Some days remind you exactly why community sports matter. Our first ever softball tournament was one of those days.

After three reschedules, a lot of planning, and more than a little weather-related patience, we finally got the chance to bring everyone together on Sunday the 11th. The goal was simple: give the girls some valuable fall reps, create a positive day at the field, and build something meaningful for the foundation.

By the time the championship game wrapped up around 5:30 p.m., it was clear that the day had become much more than a tournament. It was a full day of softball, teamwork, generosity, and people showing up for the right reasons.

A long road to tournament day

This event did not come together on the first try. In fact, we rescheduled it three different times while trying to find the right date to get some fall reps in for the girls.

Anyone who has helped organize a youth sports event knows how much goes into even a small tournament. Schedules change. Fields need to be ready. Teams have other commitments. Families are balancing school, work, and weekends full of activities.

When the final date landed on Sunday the 11th, we had another change. Our 16U teams had to drop out because of other scheduled tournaments. That left us with four teams in the 14U division.

And those four teams showed up ready to play.

We were proud to welcome:

  • Hudson Sluggers

  • FCA 14U FINS - CHAMPIONS

  • Zigabytes - RUNNERS UP

  • Renegades 14U

Those teams gave the day its energy. From the first pitch at 9 a.m. to the end of the championship game, the players competed, supported each other, and helped make the tournament feel special from start to finish.

Four teams made the day one to remember

With only four teams in the 14U division, the tournament had a close-knit feel. Coaches knew they were there to help their players improve. Parents came prepared to cheer, encourage, and support. The players brought effort to every inning.

That is what stood out most.

There was focus in the dugouts. There was hustle on the bases. There were coaches giving instruction between innings, parents clapping from the sidelines, and players staying locked in through a long day at the field.

Every team contributed to the success of the tournament. The Hudson Sluggers, FCA 14U FINS, Zigabytes, and Renegades 14U each helped create the kind of atmosphere organizers hope for when planning their first event.

Competitive, but positive. Busy, but organized. Full of emotion, but grounded in sportsmanship.

Volunteers made the tournament possible

No tournament happens without people willing to step in and help. This one was no different.

Our volunteers, Dyllan Dobbs, Dalton Dobbs, Dacoda Dobbs, Llyssa Dobbs, Aaron White and Kaylie Weller, were amazing. They gave their time, covered the small details, and kept the day moving. They helped create an environment where teams could simply show up, play, and enjoy the experience.

That kind of help matters more than people sometimes realize. A tournament day has dozens of moving pieces, many of them easy to overlook until someone is needed to handle them. Volunteers are often the reason an event feels smooth, welcoming, and organized.

I am also deeply grateful for my supportive children. Their encouragement and willingness to be part of this day meant so much to me. Planning a first-time event takes time and energy, and having family support made the process easier and more meaningful.

To everyone who helped, whether in a visible role or behind the scenes, thank you. You helped turn an idea into a real event.

Sponsors helped bring the vision to life

We also want to give a heartfelt thank-you to our wonderful sponsors, Belson Asphalt Inc and Memories on the Hill.

Their support means so much to the foundation. Sponsors play a special role in community events like this. They help make it possible to host something that benefits athletes, families, and the larger community.

Belson Asphalt Inc and Memories on the Hill believed in the event, and that support helped us bring it to life. We are truly grateful.

A day filled with the right kind of people

One of the best parts of the tournament was simply being surrounded by great people.

The players worked hard. The coaches guided with care. The parents supported not only their own athletes, but the spirit of the day. The volunteers kept things going. The sponsors helped make the event possible.

It is easy to look at a tournament and focus only on the schedule, the teams, and the final game. Those things matter, of course. But the real success of the day came from the people.

There was a sense of patience after all the rescheduling. There was gratitude that the day finally happened. There was pride in seeing the girls get the fall reps they had been waiting for.

For a first event, that means everything.

Looking ahead to the next one

This first tournament taught us a lot. It also reminded us that there is real value in creating opportunities for young athletes to compete, grow, and enjoy the game.

Even with schedule changes, team dropouts, and the challenges that come with planning something new, the day came together beautifully. The final version may have looked different than the original plan, but it became exactly what it needed to be.

A great day of softball. A strong showing of community. A meaningful step forward for the foundation.

To the Hudson Sluggers, FCA 14U FINS, Zigabytes, and Renegades 14U, thank you for being part of our first tournament.

To the coaches and parents, thank you for your commitment to the players.

To our volunteers, my children, and our sponsors, Belson Asphalt Inc and Memories on the Hill, thank you for helping make this day possible.

Our first ever softball tournament was a huge success because of all of you.

We cannot wait to do it again.
